KENYA AT THE RIO 2016 OLYMPIC GAMES

2016 Olympic games were hosted at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil from 5th to 21st August 2016. Kenya was among the 207 nations that participated in the event. There was a total of 11,303 athletes taking part in the 28 sports. One of the biggest moments was when Eliud Kipchoge won gold and the Kenyan national anthem was played which the world fell in love with and many wanted to learn it.


In athletics:

Jemima Sumgong took gold in the women’s marathon, Faith Kipyegon won gold in the women’s 1,500 m and Vivian Cheruiyot also won gold in women’s 5,000 m race. In the men’s category David Rudisha won gold in men’s 800 m, Conseslus Kipruto took gold in men’s 3,000 m steeplechase and Eliud Kipchoge won gold in the men’s marathon.


In the silver list, Vivian Cheruiyot won in the womens 10,000 m , Hyvin Jepkemoi won silver in the women’s 3,000 m steeplechase and Helen Obiri in the women’s 5,000 m. Paul Tanui won silver in the men’s 10,000 m, Boniface Mucheru won silver in men’s 400 m hurdles and Julius Yego took silver in the men’s javelin throw.


Margaret Wambui won bronze in the women’s 800 m.
